Thomas was a tailor (1881 Census) His funeral card says "In Loving Memory of Thomas Hance. Thomas Hance, who was in his 91st year, died at 12 Victoria Road, Chelmsford, where he had been living with his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs Zachariah Carr. The old gentleman, who had never before been ill, was a tailor, and, he worked for the late Mr Chas. Day, of High Street, for about forty years. He lived under five Monarchs - George III, George IV, William IV, Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. There are five generations descended from him. and 259 members thereof live in Chelmsford. Deceased had seven sons and three daughters. One son, living in London, has 13 children. Deceased's father lived until he was 89.” In 1881 he lived with his youngest son, Edward, at 6 Mildmay Road, Chelmsford, Essex. Edward was a tailor.
