Ann Lynch, the new director of the Yolo County Fair Mall. Ann is
enjoying the atmosphere in Woodland, but is quickly learning the
challenges she faces in changing the general negative attitude and
perception about the mall, especially in a struggling economy. Her
focus is bringing more businesses to the mall, as well as encouraging
our community to shop locally and support our local stores. At capacity
there can be 800 people employed at the mall. She encourages businesses
that she contacts to consider expansion to open another location, but
this is a time when few businesses are expanding, and most are in a
holding pattern waiting for the economy to stabilize. Burlington
Coat Factory is scheduled to open in March 2009. Getting other
national retail stores to Woodland is challenging. Rico’s Pizza, a hair
salon, a nail salon, and a few other stores are opening in the near
future. Ann encourages Non-profit organizations and local
charity’s to consider holding events and fundraisers at the mall.
This weekend October 18-19 the mall is hosting a Housing Agency Fair
for the United Way. Not long ago they supported the Sammy project, and
will soon be hosting a Walk-A-Thon, as well as serving as a Food bank
Distribution Center. Ann has formed a Merchants Association to open
discussion with the business owners and address problems. The
Einstein School has been a good tenant, but also problematic, dealing
with discipline issues that go hand in hand with a youth population.
Rick encouraged Ann to join a local service organization, and asked her to sign a book to be donated in her name.

Program Bruce
Dennie introduced Greg Wyatt, Sacramento County Coroner, recently
promoted from assistant. Lives on a small ranch in Dunnigan, background
in law enforcement. This is a unusual day for him as his typical day
doesn't include a lot of verbal interaction or even living people. He
has very high regard for Yolo County's Sheriff Ed Prieto and Coroner
Robert LaBrash. Yolo County is well served by them. Of course, he feels
his department may be just a little bit better.
Greg
explained the coroner's office workload and reasons why and how
referrals are made to his office. The coroner's office will be involved
in any case of death within the County except for those who die of
natural causes in a hospital or who die of natural causes and within
the last 20 days have seen a doctor. Priorities are
- Identify the decedent
- Notify next of kin
- Protect the decedent's property
- Determine time and cause of death
He had several interesting stories—enough said.
Happy Bucks- Pye thanks Rick for managing the bar in Bob's first BBQ absence ever;
- Lynn happy for YCFU winning Best Credit Union, Best Bank, and Best Mortgage Company;
- John Martin in thanks for all the committee chairs who did a fantastic job with the Salmon BBQ last Saturday.

the year and she was replaced as club president by Rick Pomeroy. To
celebrate her 1/4 year as president, Katie led the club in the One Way

then provided Katie with a few memories to take with her to Tempe, AZ
