SUPPORT OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS

NAMI-Yolo does not necessarily endorse the organizations and groups listed below. This information is offered as a convenience for the local mental health community.  Because "things change," please confirm the date and time of support group meetings before attending.

Research conducted by NAMI on college campuses shows that:

  • One in four students have a diagnosable illness

  • 40% do not seek help

  • 80% feel overwhelmed by their responsibilities

  • 50% have been so anxious, they struggled in school

The Best Colleges Guide to the Top Mental Health Challenges Facing Students helps identify signs and symptoms of common mental health issues for college students and when and where to seek help.  Left untreated, these issues can become debilitating for students.

UCD STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES

Support Groups.  Offers support groups with various themes but NOT one specifically for those with mental illness although it was being considered at one time.  Consider contacting SHCS to request such a group to show UCD that interest exists.

Individual counseling. Students with urgent needs can drop in or call the number above. Otherwise, students can call and set up an appointment to talk with staff and see if individual counseling would be a good fit. Info online.

  • The House: peer counseling program
    Phone:  530.752.2790
Students can drop-in or call for phone counseling Mon-Fri, 8am - 5pm. Student may be referred to CAPS if his/her needs are outside scope of peer counselors' training.
